Ilocos Sur is a beautiful province rich with cultural, industrial and field works. Vigan is one of the city in Ilocos recognizable as one of the Seven Wonders City that made its name known throughout the Philippines. Vigan is said to be a fifth class city in the province of Ilocos Sur in the Philippines. Most importantly, it is a marvelous place which has been included in the roster of heavenly and alluring sites; with endearing and worth knowing historical significance. Vigan City is home to various activities and cultural movements, because of its history there are a lot of sights and knowledge to uncover and know of. Some of which are famous, one of them is known as the Kannawidan. Familiar? If not so, I’ll tell you what it is. Kannawidan is a part of the bigeno’s treasure and culture wherein, every certain month of the year, its appearance always makes Vigan City Lively because its presence is popular among every Bigeno’s.

Though the sudden appearance of the Kannawidan in this year left some in shocked and questions as to why would they open it in this time of crisis, not only will it cause an open mass of people but will also cause a stampede of people because of the mass tourists visiting (View from someone who experienced it). Although in the past years, Kannawidan has been doing great, there are still some negative impacts that can’t be avoided especially in this era of pandemic.

The opening of the Kannawidan has been kept more like a secret to decrease tourists from causing mass audience but the colorful and vibrant surroundings of the Kannawidan still shines bright as it opens its gate for visitors. A lot of activities we’re held including the grand performance of different famous bands. The showcase of the preserved plants and various paintings also caught my eye, including the delicious food stalls scattered around the fast food area of Kannawidan. The Kannawidan had a grand entrance and also had the best closing ceremony, showing the best hit and performance of acoustic, pop and rock bands.

The Kannawidan’s fate lies to the visitors and demands it will take, as long as it is running well
and their business is taking flight, then the Kannawidan will continue to shine as it is. They did a good job on resisting the danger of the Pandemic and made sure everyone inside the Kannawidan is safe. The safety protocols we’re also met along with safety guards and police we’re scattered to assess. Vaccination cards and I.D’s we’re also evaluated for further more safety.

                It is a good thing that the Kannawidan opened but sadly closed after a short while, but even so, a lot of people still enjoyed the performances and activities that was held in the short but joyous event of Kannawidan. Take a stroll and come visit the beauty of Vigan, the Kannawidan of Ilocos, come and discover its Brief Presence!
